Sandy High School’s automotive program received a big boost on Thursday, Oct. 10 when the local Dick Hannah dealership donated a 2023 Ford Explorer. The donation was celebrated by thousands of community members during the halftime of the SHS football game.
“Our culture of ‘Believe In Nice’ means fostering relationships with all members of the community,” said Tony Hornback, General Manager of Dick Hannah, adding that the dealership also supports the community through Christmas Basket Donations, student scholarships, athletic program donations and more. “Giving back to the community is essential to our beliefs, and supporting students with better opportunities is key to that.”
“This donation builds on the hard work of our Automotive students over the last several years and celebrates a commitment from the Ford Motor Company and Dick Hannah to rewarding that work,” said Ryan Nystrom, SHS Automotive Technology teacher.
Students at SHS can also earn credits that can be used at Ford Dealerships nationwide and colleges that participate in the Automotive Student Service Education Training (ASSET) initiative, while they also have the opportunity to participate in a mentorship program and shadow technicians in a real-world environment at the Sandy Dick Hannah dealership.
